Designing Better Business Systems Before Choosing Technology
The K. Harbour & Co. Philosophy, prior to founding K. Harbour & Co.
The situation
Across a career spanning international telecoms, global payments, UK Build to Rent delivery, and technology, the same pattern kept showing up in every organisation, regardless of size or sector: technology got blamed for problems that weren’t really about technology.
What I did
In every one of those roles, before recommending or building anything new, the starting point was the same — diagnose how the business actually operates, understand the people doing the work, simplify workflows, align departments around shared goals, and clarify who owns what. Only once that picture was clear did any technology conversation begin.
Outcomes
- The same diagnose-first approach, applied consistently across four different sectors
- Technology recommended only after the underlying business problem was properly understood — every time
- This pattern is the direct foundation K. Harbour & Co. is built on
The result
This is not a single project — it’s the consistent thread across an entire career, and it’s the reason this firm exists in its current form.
